Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino keeps its hotel, casino, meeting rooms and an Event Centre together on a single site. Weekend guests have no reason to drive between their room, dinner and the gaming floor. Altogether, 100 rooms and suites make up the hotel.

You will find the resort just off Highway 40 heading towards Kananaskis, at the edge of Kananaskis Country. It describes itself as 45 minutes west of Calgary. In a straight line, downtown Calgary is 66.3 km away.

Friday

Friday arrival and the front desk

Leaving a car in the resort lot costs nothing. Drivers of RVs and trucks pay nothing either; they register with the front desk first, and a stay is capped at 2 nights. Driving in from the highway, you can enter 888 Nakoda Way, Mînî Thnî, Alberta T0L 1N0 into your GPS before you set off.

The front desk asks to see an ID card, a passport or a temporary residence card. A deposit for damage, up to $500, is collected by credit card or in cash and refunded after you leave, once staff have checked the room. Since the check-in time is not published, call 403-881-2830 and the front desk will confirm it. Check-out is at 11:00 am.

In a Jetted Tub Suite, the bedroom is separate and has a 43-inch TV, and the living room holds a two-person jetted tub.

Guests can use a heated indoor pool, complete with waterslide and hot tub, all year at no extra charge. Its hours are 9 am to 11 pm. The fitness centre offers a treadmill, a stationary bike, free weights and yoga mats.

    After dinner

Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino keeps more than 300 slot machines running daily, from 10 am until 4 am. Blackjack, Roulette and Ultimate Texas Hold'em Poker are dealt from 2 pm until 3 am, every night of the week. Table counts and minimums are not published. On Friday and Saturday nights, No-Limit Texas Hold'em cash games start at 7 pm. A Games Manager or a pit supervisor has the details, or call 403-881-2832.

Neither the main casino floor nor Sidelines Lounge allows smoking. Smokers have a separate slot machine room, well ventilated, behind sliding glass doors in the casino's back left corner. Across the casino, coffee, tea and water are free and self-serve, and servers sell other drinks right at your seat.

Late Night Play at Stoney Nakoda

    Late

    Quiet hours and house rules

From 11:00 pm to 7:00 am, quiet hours apply in the hotel. No parties or gatherings that exceed a room's booked occupancy or make noise are allowed. Guests who are of legal age can bring alcohol of their own, but it must be consumed in their room only. Drinking it in the lobby, halls and other public areas is not permitted.

Hotel rooms are non-smoking, and smoking in one brings a $500 cleaning fee; cannabis is restricted to designated areas. Please make sure children 12 and under are supervised at all times. A limited number of rooms accept pets, at $25 per pet per night, with a maximum of two per room. Other than the refrigerator the hotel supplies, no cooking appliances are permitted, and that covers kettles and coffee makers.

What the Stoney Nakoda Hotel Allows

    Treaty 7

    The land under the resort

Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino counts among Alberta's six Host First Nation casinos. The casino sits at Morley, where the land is a Stoney Nakoda First Nation reserve. The designated licensed charity here is the Mini Thni Foundation. Under this model, casino proceeds fund charitable and religious programs serving the community.

Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino acknowledges that its site lies on Treaty 7 territory, traditional lands of the Stoney Nakoda, Siksika, Kainai, Piikani and Tsuu T'ina Nations. In its own statement, the resort pledges, as both guests and hosts in this place, to build relationships grounded in respect and to help advance reconciliation.

    Online

    Alberta's online market

Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino operates on land only, and no page on its own website mentions an online casino. Online gaming in Alberta is a regulated market, with AGLC overseeing it and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) running it day to day. To be legal, an operator needs AGLC registration plus an operating agreement with AiGC, and it may accept players only while they are physically in Alberta. The AiGC directory at abigaming.ca lets anyone look up whether a site is authorised. The province runs its own site through AGLC: Play Alberta, found at PlayAlberta.ca.

Ad-labelled links on the Weekender's front page are paid, and each goes to an online casino partner with no tie to the resort. The guide is paid a commission, and which partner appears may change.
